The Xorus Patchinko came onto the UK bass scene back in 2006 and helped set the standard for the modern style of topwater bass fishing we know today. Often copied but, in my opinion, never really matched, the Patchinko remains a must-have surface lure for any serious bass angler.

The Patchinko 125 sits nicely between the original Patchinko 140 and the smaller Frosty, giving you a very useful middle-sized surface lure when the 140 feels a little too big but you still want good casting distance and plenty of presence on the water.

At 125mm and 18g, it's streamlined and casts extremely well for its size. Like the other Patchinkos, it doesn't need a complicated retrieve. Small twitches of the rod tip will get it walking from side to side, and once you find the rhythm it almost works itself.

It's a great size for general UK bass fishing and particularly useful when the fish are feeding on slightly smaller bait or you simply want to scale things down without moving to a small surface lure.

After selling and fishing Patchinkos for many years, they remain one of the surface lures I have the most confidence in. There are now plenty of alternatives available, but the Patchinko is still the lure that others are compared against.

Mick's Tip

If you already fish the Patchinko 140, don't think of the 125 simply as a smaller version. I like it when I want a slightly more subtle presentation or when the bass are concentrating on smaller bait. You still get that classic Patchinko action and excellent casting ability, just in a more compact package.
