Tenryu Injection SP76MH+ 25th Anniversary Limited Edition Spinning Rod

A very special edition of one of my favourite Tenryu lure rods, celebrating 25 years of Ultimate Fishing. Individually numbered, beautifully finished and with an even sharper, more sensitive action than the original.

I've always been a huge fan of the original Tenryu Injection SP76MH. In my opinion, it's an outstanding all-round lure fishing rod, equally at home working hard lures, metals and soft plastics. It's also fast and sensitive enough for more technical fishing with creature baits such as the Megabass Dark Sleeper and Sleeper Craw, where feeling exactly what's happening at the business end is so important.

So when Ultimate Fishing announced this special 25th Anniversary Injection 76MH+, I was particularly interested.

The best way I can describe this new version is that it's a slightly more tactical interpretation of the original. A little faster, a little sharper and with even greater sensitivity. In other words, everything I already love about the SP76MH, but with characteristics that should make it even better for precise, technical lure fishing.

A lighter, sharper and more responsive blank

This anniversary edition isn't simply a standard Injection with different decals.

Tenryu has incorporated higher-modulus carbon in key areas of the blank, along with a special four-axis woven carbon construction around the butt section. This helps reduce torsional twisting and improves stability, particularly when working lures that demand precise rod movements.

The blank is also lighter than the standard version, helping create a wonderfully responsive rod where even the smallest movements and vibrations can be transmitted back to the angler.

For fishing soft plastics close to the bottom, feeling subtle takes, or imparting small, controlled movements to creature baits, these improvements are particularly interesting.

From hard lures to technical soft plastic fishing

One of the great strengths of the original SP76MH is its versatility, and I certainly wouldn't pigeonhole this anniversary model as purely a soft plastic rod.

It's a fantastic specification for working a wide variety of lures, including:

• Hard lures: Minnows, jerkbaits and other plugs requiring precise control.

• Metal lures: Excellent responsiveness for working metals and casting jigs.

• Soft plastics: Everything from X-Layers and small paddle tails to larger shads.

• Creature baits: Particularly interesting for Dark Sleepers, Sleeper Craws and other bottom-contact presentations where sensitivity is paramount.

• Vertical fishing: Fast response and excellent feel when fishing directly beneath the boat.

Ultimate Fishing highlights the rod's ability to fish everything from an X-Layer on a 10g jighead through to a 7-inch Sling Shad on a 24g Bakuree Head, demonstrating just how versatile this blank is.

There's also sufficient power for larger soft plastics such as the Sawamura One Up Shad 6".

Mick's Tip

I've always regarded the original SP76MH as one of those rods that can do almost everything when it comes to modern lure fishing.

But if, like me, you enjoy fishing small creature baits, twitching soft plastics along the bottom and feeling every little tap or change in contact, I think this new MH+ version is particularly exciting.

It's not about having a rod that's simply more powerful. It's about having one that's a little quicker, a little crisper and even more sensitive.

For anglers who appreciate that extra level of feel and control, this could be a very special rod indeed.

And being an individually numbered 25th Anniversary edition makes it that little bit more desirable too.
