Shimano Ocea EX Fluorocarbon
The Shimano Ocea EX Fluorocarbon is an excellent fluorocarbon leader that combines impressive strength with a surprisingly thin diameter – and it is a fluoro that I use myself.
What I particularly like about the Ocea EX is just how thin it feels for its breaking strain. This allows me to use a strong leader without ending up with an unnecessarily thick or cumbersome connection. That's especially useful when lure fishing, where presentation and allowing the lure to work naturally can make a real difference.
Despite its relatively fine diameter, Ocea EX is extremely strong and dependable, with excellent abrasion resistance for fishing around rocks, structure or when targeting powerful fish. It makes a great choice for everything from general lure fishing through to jigging and heavier saltwater applications.
As a fluorocarbon leader it also has very low visibility underwater, making it particularly useful in clear water or when you're targeting wary fish.
Mick's Tip
This is a fluorocarbon I use myself and really rate. I find it thin yet remarkably strong for its diameter, which means I can get the leader strength I want without having to step up to an unnecessarily thick line. It's become one of my preferred fluorocarbons for my own lure fishing. This 40lb I fell in love with when visiting a shop in Panama City, I needed some 40lb leader and saw it there. I thought to myself ~ why do I only do it in 16lb & 20lb in my shop, best I get some 40lb in when I am back !
