Savage Gear Surf Seeker 40g – Heavy Shore Jigging Metal Lure
In my opinion, the Savage Gear Seeker range is simply one of the best ranges of metal lures available for shore jigging. The lighter ISP Seekers are absolutely superb, but there are times when you need something a little heavier, and that's exactly why I decided to stock the 40g Surf Seeker.
This is a fantastic metal lure for anglers who enjoy heavy shore jigging, particularly when the weather turns rough, the tide starts running and you need something that will really punch out into the surf.
Strong headwinds, breaking waves and powerful tidal currents can make lighter lures difficult to cast and control. The extra weight of the 40g Surf Seeker helps you reach fish feeding further offshore and maintain better contact with your lure in demanding conditions.
And let's face it, some of the best bass fishing can happen when the sea gets stirred up and the fish really switch on!
The Surf Seeker has an excellent swimming action, but one of its real attractions is the way it flashes and flutters when you pause the retrieve. That change in movement can be particularly effective when fish are following a lure but need a little encouragement to strike.
You can fish it with a straightforward retrieve, vary the speed, or work it with lifts and pauses to allow the lure to flutter back down through the water.
With its wire-through construction and ISP (Intense Strike Point) detailing, it's a well-thought-out metal lure designed for serious saltwater fishing.
Mick's Tip
When the weather gets rough and the tide is running hard, don't automatically reach for a bigger lure — reach for one with enough weight to fish the conditions properly.
That's exactly why I added the 40g Surf Seeker to our range.
I absolutely love the lighter ISP Seekers, but if you're fishing into a strong headwind, trying to reach beyond the breaking waves or working a mark with powerful tidal flow, the extra weight of the Surf Seeker can make all the difference.
Try casting beyond the surf and working the lure back with a mixture of steady retrieves, lifts and pauses. Keep in contact with the lure as it drops, because that flashing, fluttering action is one of its biggest attractions.
The Surf Seeker also comes with both a treble and an inline single hook. I personally prefer singles when fishing over snaggy ground or where there's weed about, as they're less likely to catch up. I also find they give me a more secure hook hold once a fish is hooked.

If you don't quite need the weight of the 40g, have a look at the 35g Surf Seeker.
For lighter shore jigging, particularly in calmer conditions, the Savage Gear ISP Seeker range in 16g, 23g and 28g is another favourite of mine.
