Savage Gear Surf Seeker 35g – Long Casting Shore Jigging Metal Lure
In my opinion, the Savage Gear Seeker range is simply one of the best ranges of metal lures available for shore jigging. The lighter ISP Seekers are absolutely superb, but there are times when you need something with a little more weight to cope with tougher conditions.
That's exactly why I decided to stock the 35g Surf Seeker.
This is a cracking metal lure for anglers who enjoy shore jigging, particularly when the wind gets up, the tide starts running and you need a lure that will really punch out into the surf.
The 35g Surf Seeker sits nicely between the lighter 28g ISP Seeker and the heavier 40g Surf Seeker, giving you an excellent balance of casting distance, sink rate and lure control.
It's a particularly useful weight when fishing into headwinds, working through strong tidal currents or trying to reach bass feeding beyond the breaking waves.
And as any experienced shore angler knows, some of the best fishing can happen when the weather turns rough, the sea gets stirred up and the fish really switch on!
The Surf Seeker has an excellent swimming action, but it's the way it flashes and flutters when you pause the retrieve that makes it particularly interesting. That sudden change of movement can imitate a struggling baitfish and encourage following predators to strike.
You can fish it with a straightforward retrieve, vary the speed, or work it with lifts and pauses to allow the lure to flutter back down through the water.
With its wire-through construction and ISP (Intense Strike Point) detailing, it's a well-designed metal lure that's perfectly suited to demanding saltwater fishing.
Mick's Tip
Don't always reach for the heaviest metal lure in your box just because the weather is rough.
The trick is to choose enough weight to cast effectively and maintain contact with your lure without going heavier than you need to.
That's where I think the 35g Surf Seeker fits in beautifully.
If the 28g ISP Seeker isn't quite heavy enough to punch into the wind or work properly in stronger tidal flow, the 35g Surf Seeker is a natural next step.
Try casting beyond the breaking surf and working the lure back with a combination of steady retrieves, lifts and pauses. Keep an eye on your line as the lure drops, because that flashing, fluttering action can be particularly effective.
The Surf Seeker also comes with both a treble and an inline single hook. I personally prefer single hooks when fishing over snaggy ground or where there's weed about, as they're less likely to catch up. I also find they give me a more secure hook hold once a fish is hooked.
Why We Rate the Surf Seeker 35g

If you need maximum casting distance or a little more weight for deeper water and stronger tides, take a look at the 40g Surf Seeker.
For lighter shore jigging, particularly when conditions are calmer, the Savage Gear ISP Seeker range in 16g, 23g and 28g is another favourite of mine.
Length: 105mm
Weight: 35g
Action: Sinking
Fishing style: Shore jigging, surf casting and saltwater lure fishing.
My verdict: A superb all-round heavy shore jigging metal. Enough weight to punch out into the surf when conditions get lively, without going quite as heavy as the 40g. A cracking addition to the Seeker range.
