Savage Gear 3D Anchovy Jig – Slow & Speed Jigging Metal Lure

The Savage Gear 3D Anchovy Jig is a superb-looking saltwater metal jig designed to produce an enticing action whether you're fishing it slowly, working it aggressively or simply allowing it to flutter through the water column.

Based on a detailed 3D scan of a real anchovy, the jig features a subtle asymmetrical body that gives it an erratic, lifelike action. As it falls, it flutters, kicks and flashes, imitating an injured baitfish struggling through the water. Start working the rod and the jig comes alive again, making it suitable for both slow jigging and faster, more aggressive retrieves.

What particularly caught my eye about these jigs is their versatility. I can see them being extremely useful for vertical jigging here in the UK, fishing deeper Norwegian waters and targeting powerful saltwater predators on tropical fishing trips.

The combination of a realistic baitfish profile, reflective finish and unpredictable action makes these an interesting option when fish are feeding on smaller baitfish.

Slow Jigging or Speed Jigging? Both!

Slow Jigging: Lift and drop the rod with controlled movements, allowing the jig to flutter and flash as it falls. The asymmetrical design helps create movement during the descent, which is often when fish attack.

Speed Jigging: Work the jig with faster rod lifts and reel turns to produce a more aggressive, erratic swimming action. An excellent option when targeting actively feeding predators.

Vertical Jigging: These heavier metal jigs are particularly well suited to working beneath the boat, exploring different depths and fishing offshore marks, reefs and wrecks.

Mick's Tip

I particularly like the look of these because they should work with several different jigging techniques. Sometimes a slow lift and fluttering fall is exactly what you need, while on other days fish respond much better to a fast, aggressive retrieve.

For me, that's what makes a good all-round metal jig. I can see these earning their place in my tackle bag for UK offshore fishing, Norway and my tropical trips.

A very interesting new jig from Savage Gear, and one I'm looking forward to putting through its paces!
