DUO Original Japanese Forged Stainless Steel Split Rings

When it comes to lure fishing, the smallest components are often some of the most important. There's little point fishing with expensive Japanese hard lures and quality hooks if the split rings connecting everything together aren't up to the job!

I've been looking to add some more high-quality Japanese forged split rings to our range, and these DUO Original Split Rings are exactly what I was after.

Made in Japan, these stainless steel split rings feature a forged, flattened construction designed to provide excellent strength while keeping their overall dimensions compact.

DUO are renowned for producing some of Japan's finest hard lures, including the legendary Tide Minnow range, so it's fitting that they also produce quality terminal tackle to complement them.

I've selected sizes 3, 3.5, 4 and 5, as I feel these are particularly useful for the styles of lure fishing we do here in Jersey and throughout the UK.

Standard and Heavy-Duty Reinforced Sizes

One particularly interesting feature of the DUO Original Split Ring range is the difference between the standard whole-number sizes and the reinforced half sizes.

The standard sizes offer excellent strength for everyday lure fishing, while the reinforced half sizes are designed to provide considerably greater breaking strength without having to move to a much larger ring.

The size #3.5 is particularly impressive, with a rated breaking strain of 37 kg (82 lb), compared with just 11 kg (24 lb) for the standard #3.

That's a substantial increase in strength from a ring with a similarly compact outside diameter.

For anglers fishing hard lures for powerful bass, pollack and other hard-fighting predators, having this additional strength available without fitting unnecessarily oversized hardware is a real advantage.

Mick's Tip

Don't overlook the split rings on your lures. They're a tiny part of your tackle, but they're also one of the connections between you and the fish!

I particularly like the idea behind the reinforced #3.5. At 37 kg breaking strain, it's an excellent option when you want considerably more strength without fitting a large, bulky ring.

However, always remember that changing split ring sizes or weights can affect the balance and action of smaller hard lures. There's no need to fit the strongest ring available if a lighter one is perfectly suited to the lure and the fish you're targeting.
