Description
Decoy Pluggin' Single 27 – Inline Single Hooks for Hard & Metal Lures
The Decoy Pluggin' Single 27 is a strong, sharp inline single hook designed specifically for replacing treble hooks on hard fishing lures, surface plugs and metal casting jigs.
Many anglers now prefer fishing with single hooks rather than trebles, particularly when targeting powerful fish or when they want to make unhooking quicker and easier.
The Pluggin' Single 27 features an oversized, upright inline eye, allowing the hook to be attached directly to the lure's split ring while maintaining the correct orientation.
This makes it an excellent choice for converting hard lures and metal jigs from trebles to singles without needing to change the lure's original attachment points.
Why Replace Trebles with Inline Single Hooks?
There are several good reasons to consider converting your favourite lures to single hooks.
Easier and Safer Unhooking
A single hook is generally easier to remove from a fish than a treble, particularly when dealing with lively bass, pollack or powerful tropical predators.
With fewer exposed hook points, there's also less chance of another point catching the fish, your landing net or your fingers during unhooking.
More Freedom of Movement
Depending on the lure and hook arrangement, replacing trebles with singles can allow a lure to move more freely.
This can be particularly useful on metal casting jigs and certain hard lures, although it's important to choose the correct hook size and weight to preserve the intended action.
Less Snagging
Single hooks can be less prone to catching weed, rocks and other underwater obstructions than exposed trebles.
This makes them a useful option when fishing over rough ground or working metal jigs close to the seabed.
Strong, Reliable Hook Holds
A correctly sized, sharp single hook can provide excellent penetration and a secure hold on hard-fighting fish.
This makes inline singles popular with anglers targeting everything from UK bass and pollack to tuna, trevally and other tropical predators.

Mick's Tip – Choosing the Correct Single Hook Size
One question I'm often asked is what size single hook should I use to replace a treble?
My method is quite simple, and it's something I've used for years.
Rather than relying entirely on the hook size printed on the packet, I look at the actual width of the original treble.
I measure the overall gape of the treble, from one outer bend to the other, and then choose an inline single with a similar gape.
For example, when replacing a size 2 treble, I'll often find that a 2/0 or 3/0 inline single gives me approximately the gape I'm looking for.
It's not an exact conversion because different manufacturers and hook patterns vary considerably, but it's a very useful starting point.
I also check the weight of the replacement hook, particularly on smaller surface lures where changing the hook weight can affect the way the lure sits and swims.
For metal casting jigs, I'm often less concerned about a small difference in hook weight, but I still want a hook that's properly proportioned to the lure.
My advice is to match the gape first, then check the hook weight and how the lure performs. It's a much more reliable approach than simply guessing a replacement size.
