Description
BallyWho? Hollow Ballyhoo Stinger Lures – Bluefin Tuna
A realistic 12-inch Garfish / Bluey baitfish imitation designed for bluefin tuna trolling to make stingers for your spreader bars and daisy chains.
The BallyWho? Hollow Ballyhoo is a very interesting alternative to traditional squid-style stingers, with a long, slender profile that closely resembles the garfish, saury and blueys that our Atlantic Bluefin tuna love to feed on.
We've brought these into Mr Fish specifically with our UK and Channel Island bluefin fishing in mind. When tuna are hunting long, slim baitfish, having something that closely matches their natural prey could make a very useful addition to your trolling spread.
Realistic Profile & Bubble Trail
The BallyWho? features a soft, hollow body with a series of small openings along each flank. These are designed to produce an attractive bubble trail as the lure is pulled through the water.
The slim body, natural-looking fins and flexible tail combine to create a convincing baitfish presentation, particularly when rigged to swim just beneath the surface.
The blue-backed colour is especially interesting for imitating the blueys and other small pelagic baitfish found around our waters.
How We Recommend Rigging Them
These lures are designed to be rigged as weighted stingers, either behind a spreader bar, daisy chain or as part of your bluefin trolling spread.
Our suggested rigging:
-
Internal weight: 2oz or 3oz oval lead
-
Hook: 9/0 to 11/0 Bristow or QuickRig Koga
-
Leader: Heavy-duty monofilament with properly sized crimps
-
Presentation: Weighted to swim just below the surface
-
Target species: Atlantic Bluefin tuna
The hollow body allows the weight to be positioned inside the lure, keeping the rigging neat while helping the stinger track beneath the surface.
Mick's Tip
I've brought these in because I really like the idea of imitating the garfish and blueys that our bluefin tuna chase around Jersey and the UK.
We see plenty of squid-style stingers being used, but I think having a long, slim baitfish imitation in the spread offers something a little different.
I'll be rigging these with a 2oz or 3oz oval lead inside the body and a 9/0 to 11/0 Bristow or QuickRig Koga hook. The idea is to have them swimming just below the surface, resembling a fleeing garfish.
We'll also be offering our own Mr Fish pre-rigged BallyWho? stingers, ready to fish, very soon.
