Decoy Violence VJ-36 Jig Head

For me, the Decoy Violence VJ-36 is THE jig head for 99% of UK soft lure fishing with worm and sandeel-shaped soft plastics. I’ve used plenty of different weedless jig heads over the years, but the shape and hook geometry of the VJ-36 just works.

The slightly in-turned hook point, combined with the angle between the hook shank and point, allows a slim soft plastic to sit beautifully on the hook while keeping the point tucked neatly against the lure. Rigged correctly, it gives you an extremely effective weedless presentation without spoiling the natural profile of the lure.

One of the biggest advantages is the position of the line attachment right on the nose of the jig head. Rather than having an eye sticking upwards where it can collect weed, the line leads directly into the front of the lure. This allows weed to travel down the line and pass straight over the jig head.

It makes a massive difference when fishing weedy bass marks. Not only can you work these through rocks, kelp and snaggy ground, they are particularly good when there is loose or floating weed in the water – exactly the sort of conditions that can make fishing a conventional exposed jig head almost impossible.

Mick's Tip

These are superb with slim worm and sandeel-profile soft lures around 5–6 inches. One of my favourite combinations has always been the Decoy Violence VJ-36 with a 5" Megabass Spindle Worm – they fit together like they were designed for each other.

If I had to choose just one style of weedless jig head for UK bass fishing with slim soft plastics, this would be it.
