Description
The new Shimano Stella SW D 14000 XG is built for anglers who demand absolute confidence in the toughest saltwater conditions. Designed to take on tuna, GTs, amberjack and other powerful predators, this flagship reel delivers unmatched strength, smoothness and control.
Featuring Shimano’s latest HAGANE body and reinforced gear system, the Stella SW D offers rock-solid rigidity under extreme load. Its upgraded XX-Tough Drag and Heat-Sink technology provide consistent, fade-free drag pressure during long, punishing fights. Paired with advanced line-lay systems like InfinityLoop and an AR-C spool, you get superior casting distance, flawless line management and reduced tangles.
The 6.2:1 high-speed gear ratio gives you rapid line recovery and powerful winding when you need to turn big fish fast. With elite-level sealing and corrosion protection, this reel is built to thrive in brutal saltwater environments.
If you’re chasing serious offshore fish and want a reel that performs at the highest level, the Stella SW D 14000 XG is the ultimate choice.
Wondering what the difference is between the older "C" model compared to this new "D" version....?
New Drag System — XX Tough Drag
The SW D introduces a redesigned drag stack: Larger drag washers (carbon/metal), pressure from both top and bottom of the spool, for stronger, more consistent drag.
Heat dissipation is improved: The drag-system adjusts to reduce heat build-up during long fights, minimizing drag-fade risk.
So, for the angler: This means more reliable drag performance over extended fights, especially important when battling big, hard-pulling saltwater species (tuna, GT, etc.).
The SW D now uses an updated gear design (InfinityXross), which enlarges the contact area between drive gear and pinion gear — distributing load more evenly for improved durability under stress.
The “InfinityDrive” setup reduces resistance when winding, making reeling smoother and more efficient under load — useful when hauling heavy fish or long runs.
For line lay and casting: the SW D adds “InfinityLoop,” a new two-speed spool oscillation system. This produces a more even, dense line lay — which improves casting distance, reduces line release resistance, and lowers the chance of drag spikes during big runs.
Also includes a redesigned spool and spool lip with a better spool-ring shape, plus an “Anti-Twist Fin” below the line roller to reduce line slack/twist during casting and retrieve.
The drag knob on the SW D is 25 % larger in diameter compared to previous models — easier to grip and adjust, especially under intense situations (fighting big fish, salt-spray, wet/dark conditions).
The rotor, handle, and arm-cam are reinforced for greater rigidity, improving power transfer and reducing flex under high load — this enhances reliability especially in heavy-duty offshore saltwater use.
What This Means in Use
-
If you used the C-model and were happy with drag performance, retrieve speed and line capacity — the D-model maintains those, but adds better drag consistency, stronger gearing and improved line behavior under extreme conditions.
-
For heavy saltwater work — long fights with big fish, heavy jigs or lures, or frequent use in rough conditions — the D-model’s upgrades translate to greater reliability, smoother performance, less wear and enhanced control.
-
For more casual or moderate saltwater fishing, the differences might be subtle — but for serious anglers chasing big game, the D-model clearly pushes the performance envelope further.
