Tackle House Feed Shallow 128+ – Shallow Running Bass Lure

The Tackle House Feed Shallow 128+ takes everything we love about the original Feed Shallow and adds just a little more casting distance!

The original Feed Shallow has been one of my favourite bass lures since I first tested it in Ireland back in 2008. Its beautiful rolling action has accounted for countless bass over the years, and the Feed Shallow+ retains that same irresistible movement, but with a slightly heavier body designed to cast even further.

Tackle House achieved this by increasing the size of the internal weight chamber and using slightly heavier ball bearings in the weight transfer system. This brings the lure up to 21g, compared with the original's 18.5g.

It might not sound like a huge difference, but that extra weight is particularly useful when you're trying to reach fish beyond shallow reefs, fishing into a breeze or simply wanting to cover more water from the shore.

Despite the additional weight, the Feed Shallow+ still runs incredibly shallow, from just 5cm beneath the surface with your rod tip held high, down to approximately 45cm.

This makes it an excellent choice for fishing over shallow, weed-covered reefs, rocky ground and sandy beaches where deeper-diving lures would constantly be snagging.

And the best bit? It's still incredibly easy to fish!

There's no need for complicated retrieves, aggressive twitching or jerking. Simply cast it out, turn the reel handle at a steady pace and allow that lovely rolling action to do the work.

Mick's Tip

Having fished with the original Feed Shallow since 2008, I've always believed that its greatest strength is how naturally it swims on a straightforward retrieve.

The Feed Shallow+ is no different. Don't overwork it! A steady retrieve is often all you need to tempt a bass into attacking.

Another useful little tip concerns the hooks. The lure comes fitted with three size 5 saltwater trebles, but size 6 trebles are also perfectly suitable as replacements.

Alternatively, if you prefer fishing with just two trebles, you can remove the middle hook and fit two size 4 trebles instead.
