Description
The Shimano Talica II, A 40lb 2-Speed Right Hand Reel offers the same advanced engineering and big-game performance as the Talica 50, but in a slightly narrower and lighter design. This makes it an excellent choice for anglers trolling for smaller bluefin tuna in UK waters, and of course many other trolling fisheries elsewhere in the world. This where a lighter setup can still deliver the power needed while improving comfort during long days offshore.
The Talica 40 retains the same two-speed lever drag system, allowing anglers to switch instantly between high and low gear ratios depending on the fight. High gear allows for rapid line recovery when clearing lines or retrieving lures, while low gear provides the cranking power needed when a tuna dives deep or powers away after striking a spreader bar or just trolling a single trolling lure be it a diver or skirted surface lure.
Despite its slightly more compact body, the reel still delivers up to 66 lb of maximum drag, giving anglers the stopping power needed to control powerful pelagic fish.
For anglers targeting tuna in the Channel Islands and UK offshore waters, the Talica 40 is a superb option when fish are averaging smaller sizes or when a lighter trolling outfit is preferred. It provides the same reliability and smooth performance as the larger 50-class reel but with reduced weight and a narrower spool, making it easier to handle during extended fights.
