Savage Gear ISP Seeker 23g – Shore Jigging Metal Lure
In my opinion, the Savage Gear ISP Seeker, along with its bigger brother the Surf Seeker, is simply one of the best metal lures available for shore jigging.
I've fished these myself from the beaches here in Jersey, and they really are superb little metals. They cast beautifully, have a fantastic fluttering action through the water and, most importantly, they catch fish!
The 23g ISP Seeker is a brilliant all-round weight for shore lure fishing. It offers an excellent balance of casting distance, sink rate and lure control, making it a great choice for targeting bass, pollack and other predatory fish from beaches, rocks and harbour walls.
One of the things I particularly like about the Seeker is its action. On a steady retrieve it swims enticingly through the water, but it's when you pause and allow it to flutter back down that the lure really comes into its own.
That fluttering, flashing movement resembles a struggling baitfish, and can be absolutely deadly when fish are feeding but reluctant to chase a fast-moving lure.
The 23g is particularly versatile because it has enough weight to cast a good distance, even in a breeze, without sinking quite as quickly as the heavier 28g version. This gives you a little more time to work the lure through the water column, especially when fishing shallower beaches or over mixed ground.
You can fish it with a simple straight retrieve, add a few twitches of the rod tip, or work it with lifts and drops. Sometimes the simplest approach is the most effective!
Mick's Tip
I've used these Seekers myself from our beaches here in Jersey, and I personally prefer to replace the treble hook with the single hook supplied with the lure.
I find the single particularly useful when fishing over snaggy ground or when there's weed about, as it's less likely to catch up on the bottom or collect weed.
I also prefer the hook hold from a single hook once a fish is hooked. In my experience, it gives a more secure hold, especially when playing a decent fish through the surf.
It's a simple change that I think makes an already excellent lure even better.
Why We Rate the ISP Seeker 23g

For lighter tackle or shallower water, take a look at the 16g ISP Seeker. If you need additional casting distance or are fishing deeper water, the 28g ISP Seeker is a great alternative.
For even heavier conditions and maximum casting distance, the Savage Gear Surf Seeker range is well worth a look.
