I was looking for a rod to use primarily for stalking bass in heavy cover using Dark Sleepers and Sleeper Craws and other creature baits used in these environments. I prefer a 7ft rod for this type of fishing as most of the time there is no need to cast far and an underarm flick is all that is needed. Previously I had been using the Injection 73M for this type of lure fishing as it offered the fantastic sensitivity of every tap and knock from a fish or seabed, but lacked the grunt to get the fish out of the weed that they would inevitably head for once hooked. I explained to Mick what I was looking for and after trying a few rods in the store like the heavier Injections it was this rod’s steelier tip, which still retained the sensitivity I was looking for, but with a parabolic action rather than a fast action (that I have found Injections traditionally have), to allow fish to be fought on a tight drag, held away from snags while absorbing lunges. On this rod’s first outing this was confirmed with three fish taken in heavy seaweed, and throughout the fight easily controlled in a very tight space while still retaining the enjoyment of catching a fish. This rod will also happily work surface lures, light soft lures and swim baits, and is now my go-to rod for everyday lure fishing. I imagine it would also work well for stalking pike on canals and possibly carp on bait in tight swims.
