Sawamura One Up Shad 5" – 130mm Paddle Tail Soft Lure
The Sawamura One Up Shad is one of the most popular soft lures in France, yet here in the UK I still don't think it gets anywhere near the following it deserves!
The 5" (130mm) version is a superb size for bass fishing, offering a substantial baitfish profile without being excessively bulky. It's a beautifully made soft lure, but what really sets it apart is just how incredibly soft and supple the material is.
That softness allows the paddle tail to work with the slightest movement. Even on a very slow retrieve, the tail continues to kick away, giving the lure a wonderfully natural swimming action. You don't need to work it aggressively to bring it to life, which is particularly useful when fish are reluctant to chase a faster-moving lure.
Another characteristic of the One Up Shad is its distinctive scent, very similar to the aniseed-style scent of the legendary Megabass Xlayer. It's a nice additional attraction to an already excellent soft lure.
The 5" One Up Shad is equally at home rigged on a conventional jig head or fished weedless over rougher ground. It's a versatile option for bass, pollack and other predatory species, whether you're fishing from the shore or a boat.
Mick's Tip
One of the biggest advantages of the One Up Shad is that incredible tail action at low speeds. Try fishing it slowly, using just enough retrieve speed to keep the tail working. It's an excellent approach when bass are present but don't seem interested in chasing faster lures.
For weedless fishing, I'd recommend the Xorus Texas Eel 5/0 or Decoy Violence 4/0.
