Sawamura One Up Shad 2" – Ultra Light & LRF Soft Lure

The Sawamura One Up Shad is one of the most popular soft lures in France, and although it's well known amongst bass anglers here in the UK, the smaller versions deserve just as much attention!

I've brought in this little 2" version specifically for freshwater perch fishing and saltwater LRF (Light Rock Fishing), where smaller, more subtle soft lures can be incredibly effective.

What makes the One Up Shad so good is the remarkable softness of the material. The body is incredibly supple, allowing that little paddle tail to kick into action with the slightest movement. Even on a very slow retrieve, it produces a lovely natural swimming action, which is exactly what you want when targeting smaller predators or fish that aren't particularly aggressive.

Like the larger One Up Shads, this little version also has its own distinctive scent, very similar to the aniseed-style scent of the Megabass Xlayer.

At just 2" long, it's a lovely little lure for fishing around harbour walls, pontoons, rocky shorelines and other areas where small fish are feeding. It's equally suited to freshwater perch fishing, particularly when you want to present a small baitfish imitation on light tackle.

Mick's Tip

With these tiny paddle tails, I like the idea of keeping everything as light and natural as possible. Match the lure to a small jig head and try a slow, steady retrieve, allowing that incredibly soft tail to do the work.

You can also experiment with little lifts and pauses, particularly when fishing for perch close to the bottom.

There's no need to rush these little lures. The whole advantage of the One Up Shad is that the tail works beautifully even at very low speeds.
